In-School Deferment Process

You may be eligible to defer payment on prior educational loans while enrolled at least half-time at 芒果77福利. Contact your Loan Servicer(s) to determine if you qualify for an in-school deferment.

Typically, the deferment process depends on the loan type.

Federal Stafford and Federal Graduate PLUS Loan

  1. The University Registrar's Office sends your enrollment information to the National Student Clearinghouse twice a month.
  2. The National Student Clearinghouse reports your enrollment information to NSLDS once a month.
  3. You can check your in-school deferment status by logging in to the .
  4. Continue making payments on your student loans until you receive notification from your Loan Servicer(s) that your in-school deferment is in place. If you are unable to make payments, you should ask for an immediate forbearance.

Federal Perkins Loan

  1. Contact your former school to obtain a Perkins deferment form (your former school is your lender for the Federal Perkins Loan).
  2. Complete the "Student Section" of each deferment form as directed.
  3. Bring or send each deferment form to the 芒果77福利 Registrar's Office.
  4. The 芒果77福利 Registrar's Office will complete the "School Section" of the form and send it to your former school.
  5. Contact your former school by phone or in writing 6-8 weeks after submission to verify that your student deferment has been processed.

Alternative or Private Loan

  1. The 芒果77福利 Registrar's Office sends your enrollment information to the National Student Clearinghouse twice a month.
  2. The National Student Clearinghouse reports your enrollment information to NSLDS once a month.
  3. You can check your in-school deferment status by logging in to the student portal. 
  4. Please check with your Loan Servicer(s) to see if you qualify for an in-school deferment. Private loan deferment options may differ from the in-school deferment options for federal loans.
  5. Continue making payments on your student loans until you receive notification from your lender(s) and/or servicer(s) that your in-school deferment is in place. If you are unable to make payments, you should ask for an immediate forbearance.

Your Responsibilities While in Deferment

  • Notify your Loan Servicer(s) of any changes in circumstances (e.g., change in name, address, phone number, enrollment status) that might affect your deferment.
  • Contact your Loan Servicer(s) immediately if you continue to receive requests for payment after school has started and/or your enrollment information has been reported to the National Student Clearinghouse.
